Spotify's Android TV build is a different interface from the phone app: large album art, a now-playing screen designed to be readable from a sofa, and lyrics where they are licensed.
It supports Spotify Connect, so you can start playback from your phone and hand it to the TV, which is the pattern most people actually use in a living room.
A free account works, but ads play through the TV speakers and the app nudges you toward Premium more often than the phone build does.
