App installed but not showing in the launcher

Android TV launchers list apps that declare the LEANBACK_LAUNCHER category. A phone APK declares only the normal LAUNCHER category, so it installs, runs from Settings, and never appears on the home screen.

This is the single most common cause. The app is not broken; it is simply addressed to a different kind of device. Some phone apps also declare leanback and work fine, but many do not.

The launcher also caches its app list. After installing, press Home and wait a moment, or open the app once from Settings so the package manager broadcasts the change.

1. Check whether the app declares LEANBACK: run adb shell cmd package resolve-activity --brief <package> and look for a leanback activity.
2. Open the app once from Settings → Apps so the launcher's cache refreshes.
3. If the app has no leanback activity, look for a TV build of the same app instead of the phone APK.
