Kodi plays almost any file, supports add-ons, skins and a proper library. The Android TV build installs from Google Play on most devices and sideloads cleanly on the rest.

It is heavier than a simple player and needs a bit of configuration, but nothing else matches its format support and skinning. The official Android TV skin is remote-friendly.

Install Kodi from Google Play, or sideload the official APK from kodi.tv.
Add your media source under Videos → Files.
