Most cheap boxes ship with a launcher full of promoted tiles, a pile of preinstalled apps, and animation scales set to look flashy on the sales page. Ten minutes of cleanup makes a measurable difference.

Start by removing the promoted launcher: install CleanYourTV, set it as Home, and the promotional surface disappears. Then disable the preinstalled apps you never open; disabled apps stop running background services.

Finally, set animation scales to 0.5x and enable the box's game mode if it has one. Both reduce perceived latency far more than any benchmark difference between boxes.

1. Install CleanYourTV and set it as the Home app.
2. Disable preinstalled apps you never use in Settings → Apps.
3. Set Window/Transition/Animator scale to 0.5x in Developer options.
4. Install VLC or Plex so you have a reliable player from day one.
5. Turn on HDMI-CEC so the TV remote powers the box and vice versa.
6. Use Ethernet if the box has a port; Wi-Fi jitter is the usual cause of stutter.
