Stock launchers on cheap boxes are the slowest and the most ad-heavy. Certified Google TV devices are better but still promote content you did not ask for.

Projectivy is the most configurable alternative and a good choice if you like building your own layout. FLauncher is minimal and open source. CleanYourTV targets the smallest footprint and the most conventional layout: a clock, a dock, an alphabetical grid.

None of them will make slow hardware fast. If your box stutters while scrolling, the launcher is rarely the bottleneck; memory pressure from background apps usually is.

  1. Measure first: note how long the current launcher takes to show the grid after pressing Home.
  2. Install one alternative at a time and set it as Home; compare the same measurement.
  3. Check memory after a day of use, not in the first five minutes.
  4. Keep the winner and uninstall the others to free storage.
